Archive 1999-2008

The initial web pages in the collection of Contemporary Louisiana Cajun, Creole and Zydeco Musicians were posted by David Simpson starting in mid-1999 when Simpson was LSU at Eunice director of public relations. The pages were initiated as a public service expanding on the Central Acadiana Gateway tourism-related pages posted by Simpson on LSUE's web site several years earlier. Over the years, additional music web pages were added, updates were incorporated, and many more photographs were uploaded. The first photographs were taken with consumer-level digital cameras.  Later photographs were taken with digital SLR cameras. Information about bands and musicians was drawn primarily from CD liner notes and print publications.  In 2006, when Simpson returned to full-time teaching responsibilities as an associate professor of English (he taught on a half-time basis while PR director), he continued to post periodic updates to the music pages and also continued to add photographs of rural Mardi Gras activities to LSUE's site. He retired from LSUE in May 2009.

The web pages will remain on LSUE's site indefinitely as an archive but there will be no further updates or additions.

Starting in summer 2008, Simpson began uploading photographs of musicians and bands to a Flickr account that gives everyone access to high resolution versions of photographs.  The Flickr pages include photographs from the LSUE pages and new photographs that Simpson will be taking in the future.  The web address indexing the photographs is http://www.cajunzydecophotos.com.
